INTRODUCTION

                Krishi Vigyan Kendra , Kendrapara was  established by Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1996 under Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology at Jajanga, Kendrapara, Orissa , in the East & South Eastern Coastal Plain Agro –Climate zone. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is an unique fast line transfer of technology project, which transfers technologies in agriculture and allied fields to the farmers , farm women , rural youth ,school drop outs and extension functionaries  to increase their knowledge , enhance their skill and change their  attitude in concerned sectors       

ABOUT THE MANDATES OF K.V.K.

1.      Training to farmers,farm women,rural youth & school drop outs.

2.      Training to extension functionaries

3.      Front line demonstration on proved technology in farmers field.

4.      On farm Testing for refinement of existing technology.

ORGANISATIONAL SETUP

            Organisational set up, as sanctioned by ICAR consists of one Programme Co-Ordinator, who is being assisted by six Subject Matter Specialists (Crop Production, Plant protection, Soil science, Fishery science ,Home science & Extension Education) , one Programme Assistant,one Farm Manager , one Computer Programmer and six other office supporting staffs.

MODE OF ACTION

            Before execution of any programme survey is conducted using PRA tools for agro echo system analysis and problem matrix ranking , problems are identified and prioritized and intervention points are selected for executing the programmes either through training , demonstration or On Farm Testing. After execution impact study is conducted in which change in knowledge , adoption of appropriate technology, increase in productivity , income and ultimately improvement in socio economic status caused by the implementation of the intervention is assessed.

LABORATORY FACILITY

            One soil & water-testing laboratory has started functioning from this year. Facilities for assessing quality parameters of soil & water will be available in the laboratory. Farmer can test available nutrient status (available Nitrogen, available phosphorus & available potash) ,pH value, EC value of their soil  and CO3, HCO3, pH, EC of their water samples.
